Our Senior Pet Care Services

Thanks to advancements in veterinary care, better dietary habits, and informed owners, today’s pets are living longer than ever before. As a result, veterinarians and owners are faced with a whole new set of age-related conditions that require specialized care. Nassau Veterinary Clinic stays up to date on the discovery of these new conditions and viable treatment options. We use the latest technology and equipment to deliver quality senior pet care in a safe and loving environment.

We are pleased to offer and recommend comprehensive preventative healthcare programs to clients with aging pets. Through these medical programs, we can assess specific body systems to aid in the early detection of diseases commonly associated with the older pet.

Our programs are offered in a variety of options, in order to accommodate the individual pet and owner’s financial needs. Based on your pet’s history and current medical condition, your veterinarian may advise testing such as bloodwork, urinalysis, radiographs, EKGs, or ultrasounds. Each test will screen for diseases associated with the aging pet.

Semiannual Visits Are Recommended for Senior Pets

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), cats and small dogs are considered geriatric at the age of seven. Larger dogs, who tend to have shorter lifespans, may be considered geriatric at age six. At this time, we recommend semiannual veterinary visits, instead of the typical annual visits required for younger pets. If your senior pet has a medical condition, more frequent visits may be required.
